Runners leave the start line behind as they begin the Druridge Bay 10k 2014

Approximately 400 participants took part in this years event, an improvement on last years figures, to make their way around the fabulous 10k set out by the organising committee of the Druridge Bay 10k.

Initially as the week had progressed the weather forecast looked grim but as the day moved closer this improved and the sun certainly shone on the righteous by the time the early birds arrived on site.

Druridge Bay Country Park was buzzing with people during the pre-event build up with everyone limbering up and checking watches every few minutes.

At 10:30am Joy Bowman sounded the horn which got the 2014 event underway and just over 33 minutes later the race winner Ian Harding strode home to take the tape.  Following Ian scores of athletes and fun runners made their way around the course crossing the line with a mixture of grimaces, relief but ultimately delighted faces.

It will be several days before the count is complete but the committees of both the Druridge Bay 10k and The Stephen Carey Fund are hoping to have raised several thousand pounds which will go towards the installation of Public Access Defibrillators with the area.

The committee of The Stephen Carey Fund would like to thank the Druridge Bay 10k committee for selecting them as the beneficiaries of this years event and guiding us through what was uncharted territory for most of us having not taken on a event of this size or type previously.

We would like to thank all the volunteers to helped in the organisation both prior to and on the day, without people like yourselves this event simply  can’t happen.  Also huge respect to the 400+ participants of the race, whatever your reasons for running today your entry fee alone will help us save lives in the future.

The Druridge Bay 10k has been a hugely rewarding experience for The Stephen Carey Fund and we can’t wait to reveal the final sum raised and share our plans as to how it will help us achieve our goals going forward.
